Human Development Report 2013

Human Development Report 2013: The Rise of the South: Human Progress in a Diverse World. Launch by Minister for International Development Cooperation Christian Friis Bach and UN Under-Secretary-General / UNDP Associate Administrator Rebeca Grynspan Thursday 14 March 3:30-5 p.m.

While the economies of rich countries have stagnated a lot of countries in the South is rapidly developing with average growth rates of 5-6%. But the rise of the South is about more than economic growth – it is also a result of continuing investments in human development.  At the same time it is a historical opportunity to achieve even greater progress in human development in the world as a whole and to even out existing inequalities.

UNDP’s Human Development Report 2013 analyses the causes and the consequences of the continuing rise of the south and it looks at the fundamental shift in the global dynamic driven by emerging powers in the South. Among the many recommendations in the report is the need to strengthen the representation of the South in international governance institutions and to expand the mandates of regional institutions.

As always the report contains an updated Human Development Index (HDI) and a ranking of the worlds countries. Come and found out how Denmark is doing!
