The Position
The intern works at the intersection of US and Danish societal and cultural affairs to pursue multilateral engagements with civil society actors and facilitate cultural exchange between Danish and American artists, cultural institutions and other key stakeholders. Additionally, the intern will be supporting the Consulate General’s effort to communicate and further Danish values and positions of strength in New York and across the US East Coast. The Culture and Public Diplomacy intern will assist the Consul General and the Head of Culture and Public Diplomacy in their daily work with public diplomacy and cultural exchange.
Your daily tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Facilitating and advising in regard to Danish arts and cultural collaborations across the US East Coast.
- Assisting with various research tasks on cultural trends and societal developments.
- Casework in connection with visiting programs, ministerial visits and briefing documents.
- Coordination and execution of meetings and events.
- Assisting on the Consulate’s ongoing strategy talks and work program.
- Creating content for Denmark In New York's social media platforms.
- Responding to a broad range of inquiries regarding Danish arts, culture and society.
- Updating various lists, records and reports.
As part of the internship, the intern will be given the opportunity to independently pursue at least one big project, which is both academically relevant and applicable to the culture and public diplomacy team’s overall work.
The Candidate
For this position, students from the Humanities, Social Sciences and creative fields (e.g. film, literature, music, theater, visual arts, design, culture studies) will be given priority consideration. Professional experience from the Danish cultural sector and/or international cultural exchange and communications field is an advantage.
Additional competencies include:
- Understanding and interest in international political relations and the role of cultural and public diplomacy.
- Strong analytical skills and a creative flair.
- Understanding of Danish society and cultural value systems.
- Good interpersonal skills, personal initiative, and a propensity for team collaboration.
- Strong writing skills along with fluency in English and Danish, both written and spoken.
