WASHINGTON D.C: Foreign-, Security- and Development Policy (2 positions) | Application Number: POL-1

The Embassy of Denmark in Washington D.C. is looking for two interns to support the Embassy’s work within foreign-, security- and development policy.

As an intern with the department for foreign, security and development policy, you will: 

  • Take part in the daily work of monitoring and analysing American foreign-, security and development policy
  • Contribute with background research, data collection and contributions for the department’s reporting
  • Build and maintain a knowledge bank of key contacts within foreign-, security- and defense policy, including the mapping of interests, political standpoints and key issues
  • Support the Embassy’s work with visiting delegations and events, including various practical tasks
  • Get a good first hand impression of the political community in Washington D.C. as well as the functioning of the Embassy
  • Participate in meetings with the American administration, Congress, and think tanks in Washington D.C.
  • Gain a better understanding of the relationship between political theory and practice in the context of Danish and American foreign policy
  • Gain greater insights into American social conditions and culture. 

The Candidate

  • You are enrolled at a higher educational institution with an interest in U.S. foreign-, security- and development policy
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required
  • You have flair for information gathering, presentation, and writing
  • Office package skills are expected
  • You thrive in an international environment where an outgoing and curious approach is crucial
  • You possess an independent drive along with a positive attitude when engaging in new tasks.

WASHINGTON D.C: Economic & Domestic Political Affairs Policy (2 positions) | Application Number: POL-2

The Embassy of Denmark in Washington, D.C., is looking for two interns to support the work within economic and domestic political affairs. 

As an intern with the department for economic diplomacy and domestic political affairs, you will:

  • Engage in the daily activities of monitoring and analyzing American domestic political affairs, economic affairs, trade policy, and development in sectors such as health, climate/energy, and shipping.
  • Contribute to background research, data collection, and submissions for the department's reporting.
  • Support the Embassy's work with visiting delegations and events.
  • Participate in meetings with the American administration, Congress, think tanks, and NGOs in Washington, D.C.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of American social conditions and culture.
  • Gain first-hand experience of the political community in Washington, D.C., as well as the operations of Denmark's largest bilateral embassy.
  • Have the opportunity to visit and establish connections with American and Danish companies, political institutions, and organizations.
The Candidate
  • You are enrolled at a higher educational institution within social science, economics, or financial studies
  • Fluency in Danish and English (oral and written) is required

WASHINGTON D.C: The Defense Department (2 positions) | Application Number: POL-3

The Defense Department at the Danish Embassy in Washington DC is responsible for maintaining and strengthening military cooperation with the United States and Canada. The department also handles a variety of tasks related to defense procurement, industry promotion, Foreign Military Sales, logistics, education and training, military exercises, visits, meetings, import/export permits, veteran affairs, official events, networking, and events etc. The Defense Department at the embassy monitors and analyzes news and developments in the Department of Defense, herein security policy, defense policy, technology, and military affairs. Further, the department supports Danish organizations and businesses, who seek to establish or strengthen their position in relation to the defense industry in the U.S. and Canada. 

Your daily tasks include, but not are not limited to: 

  • Contribute to monitoring and analysis of news and developments in the Department of Defense, herein strategy, concepts, doctrine, organization, training, materiel, logistics, personnel
  • Contribute to reporting to the Danish authorities, and key stakeholders, herein the Ministry of Defence, Defence Command Denmark, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Independent research, analysis, and drafting of cables; moreover, drafting of contributions to newsletters
  • Participation in meetings, briefings, events, debates, and conferences at major think tanks in Washington D.C.
  • Support the planning and execution of defense related visits from Danish delegations
  • Practical tasks in relation to events on the Embassy, such as sending of invitations, guided tours, preparation of events, meetings etc.

The Candidate

  • You have a bachelor’s degree, and are enrolled in a master’s degree program in political science, international security and/or law or similar programs related to security, defense, policy, and military affairs.
  • Mastering Danish and English (oral and written) at a high level is required. 
  • You have an independent drive along with a positive attitude when engaging in new tasks.
  • Our ideal candidate has flair for media monitoring, including selection and systemization of information, analysis and synthesis of key points.
  • Experience from the Danish Defence is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.
